According to the U.S. CDC, local health authorities have reported approximately 6,700 cases of chikungunya from Lampung Province on the island of Sumatra (mainly Tulang Bawang and Mesuji), since December 2009. Chikungunya is an arboviral infection, transmitted by mosquitoes, and usually self-limiting. Travelers are advised to practice daytime and nighttime insect precautions.
